Alongside our 35 exhibitors showcasing more than 450 artworks by far over 100 artists, we have compiled a small but high quality program for you.

For the first time this year, photo basel will present a museum style cabinet of vintage works, our “Master Cabinet” – with a focus on Pivotal Moments: Pivotal moments are significant occurrences, often defined by certain historical or cultural shifts. photo basel strives to curate a special exhibition that can convey, enlighten, recollect and amaze with a selection of outstanding prints.

In addition and in cooperation with the Swiss camera manufacturer ALPA® as well as a private collector from Zürich, photo basel introduces a new purchase award for the best artist at photo basel, the ALPA AWARD 2018. The ALPA AWARD winner will be announced during the week of photo basel and one work will be purchased by the private collector. In addition, ALPA® will award a cash prize or ALPA® camera system to the winning photographer.

We are also proud that the five winners of the CAP Prize (International Prize for Contemporary African Photography) will be announced during photo basel.

Moreover photo basel is hosting the PP Aperture PhotoBook Awards for the first time in Switzerland. The exhibition includes the 35 shortlisted books from the categories PhotoBook of the year, First Photobook and Catalogue of the Year.
